Now may be a great time to refinance. The probability of mortgage rates being this low by the end of the year are slim. There are a few good sites online that will enable you to compare a few different offers here is one. Good luck!

With mortgage rates where they have been for the past several years, and with adjustable rates often not even a point below fixed, there is little reason NOT to get a fixed rate mortgage.

Money Magazine report that interest on one year cd’s may very well double by this December.

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that interest rates will rise – perhaps double.
One thing is certain – they could not go any lower.

Is it too soon? NO. You ask a very good question. However, you may want to consider the opposite as well. Is it too late? Well, not yet. As of January 2010, fixed mortgage rates are at or very close to historical lows. Financial experts and the media are indicating that these historical lows do not expect to stick around much longer. With that in mind, your variable rate loan, tied to an index directly linked to the market, is low now. However, it will rise in the not so distant future if the experts are correct. With that in mind, it is imperative that you assess your plans for the future as they relate to your living arrangements and the direct financial implications of those arrangements. Ask yourself “do I plan on staying in my home for 3 years, 7 years, forever?” Doing this first will guide you to the answer. If you plan on selling and moving soon, the costs of refinancing may not be worth the short period of time you will have a “safe” fixed rate. However, if staying put in your home is your plan, you are encouraged to shop for the best fixed rate you can get right now and hedge your bets against the inevitable rise in your variable rate.
